Wonderful Weaving

This week we decided to give weaving a try!

Lots of us found it really tricky at first but we showed Determination.  We kept on trying and we didn't give up.

Sadie said, "I found it really hard but in the end I got it because I persevered."

Personal Best!

Determination!

Enjoyment!

We were inspired by Mrs Mueller's wonderful bag!

Finley's Writing

Finley wrote this great piece after his weekend away in Taupo...

Whoa!  That is some serious fog.  The fog was on the mountain tops - two parts of fog because we went over two hills.  Finally we found some sun!  It broke through the clouds.  It took a long time to get to Taupo.

Room 1's Garden Update!

Oh my gosh!  Look at our garden.  Can you see the difference to our garden?  It has grown heaps.  I saw the cabbages had changed from tiny seedlings to humongous vegetables.  Some of our plants have been nibbled by black and yellow caterpillars.  Mrs Blakesely was digging for wiggly worms so Room One could look at slippery, slimy worms.
Keiarliya

Underneath the soil there are slippery worms.  They have a saddle on them that makes the slimy mucus.  Worms are good for the soil because they make burrows that gives the soil air and water.  If the worms stays on the top of the soil a bird might eat it.  They have little spikes on them to help them move.  Their poo is called casts.
Sadie

Wow, our garden is bigger.  We know that the snails are hibernating and the worms don't like the sun.  The worms don't have legs but they have claws to help them move.
Mana

Chomp! Chomp! Nibble! Nibble! The caterpillars are chomping the cabbage because the white butterflies are laying eggs.  The caterpillars come out of the eggs and they start eating the silverbeet and cabbage.
Coby

Under the ground in our garden there is lots and lots of worms.  The worms are good for our soil.  They have thicker bits on their body.  It is called a saddle.  The saddle helps the worm to move.  Worms have no bones.  They have no feet.  They don't have noses.  They breathe through their skin.
Tyler

Wiggle,  Wiggle.  The worms are long and skinny.  The slugs and snails are hibernating.
Sienna

Nibble.  Nibble.  Wriggly worms are good for the soil because their poos and wees help the plants grow.  "Stop it caterpillars!  We want our plants to grow.  They are not for you to nibble!"
Jorgia

Chomp!  Chomp!  We have worms in our garden and worms are good for the soil because the worm poo is good for soil and worm wee is good too.  It is wet.  We went on the field and there was heaps of worm poo.  They eat the soil because they like eating it.  Worms live for ten years.  If they sit on the soil for too long they get dried up.

Kahurangi Dance Group Performance - Matariki

Swish, swish, clatter, clatter went the flax skirts on the six Matariki dancers.  They were spinning their sticks around themselves.  When they spun their sticks around it looked like a propeller on a helicopter.  I like the story about the seven fish because I liked the beautiful golden fish.
By Riley

Matariki is a time when we celebrate the Maori New Year.  Tawhirimatea, the God of the Winds, cried and he caught his tears and he threw them into the sky and that's how the 7 stars began.

Sasha, the Cavoodle, visits Room 1

Sasha is a tiny puppy.  She is very fluffy like a cloud.  Sasha is 4 months old.  She is a Poodle crossed with a King Cavalier Charles Spaniel.  Sienna was scared of Sasha.  She is adorable and she is playful.  Her ears flop up and down like a bird wing going up and down in the sky.
Keiarliya

Sasha is very cute.  I wish I had a puppy like that.  She is black and brown.  She is soft and she is 4 months old.  She is soft like a pillow.  Her nose was shiny and slippery.
Reese

(Sasha ran so fast I kept missing her when I took the photos)!

Sasha is friendly and playful.  She is a puppy and she has a curly coat.  She has a very, very short tail.  The kind of puppy she is, is a Poodle mixed with a King Cavalier Charles Spaniel.  I like Sasha's coat.  It is black and tan.
Maddie

Sasha's nose was shiny and wet and her coat was curly.  Her eyes are black and her tail was wagging fast.

Our Magic Faraway Tree Adventures

We have been reading The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton.  We love creating pictures in our head while we listen to the story of the children's adventures up the magic Faraway Tree.

We imagined our own lands that could be at the top of the Faraway Tree and wrote about them, using wow words to help create a picture in the reader's head.

The Land of Movies
Wow!  I tiptoed up the ladder.  I crept up into the land of movies.  Movie land was covered in movies. Trees were full of movies.  I climbed up a tree with a movie.  I went inside the house. When I got inside the house a spider chased me.  I got an axe and chopped the spider.  I ran out of the house...I climbed up a tree and a t.v hung from the moon.  The movie I watched was the Lego movie.  My couch changed into a bed.  I went to sleep.

The Land of Fish
Tip top..I crept up the ladder and I spotted a fish land.  Water was all over the sand.  I saw a crab on the wiggly stones.  There were lots of fish swimming around the place.  I saw a shark, "arghhhh!"  There were lots of pine cones on the trees.  I love my land of fish because all the lovely fish are colourful.
I put my togs on and jumped in with a big splash and I swam with the lovely fish.
I saw a dark cave and, "arghhhh," I said.
"A shark.  Amazing, but it's going to eat me." The shark had long sharp teeth and the shark was humongous.  I was shivering.  I hid behind the rocks.  A colouful fish quickly swam to me and said, "Come with me."
"Okay," I said.  He took me to the big long hole at the top of the tree.  Finally I was home.

Yummy Land
Wow!!! I peeked up through the clouds.  I got a shock!  The land was called...Yummy land.  There was a blue lake of...tutti fruiti vitafresh.  The houses were made out of colourful lollies.  The grass was made out of chocolate. Everything was edible.  The trees were made of broccoli and you could bite them whenever you wanted some broccoli!
One day I went in my chocolate kayak to go for a swim in the vitafresh lake and a sleep on my kayak.  When I went for a dive at the bottom of the vitafresh lake I saw a chocolate shark and it said to me, "I'm going to eat you up!"
No!" I said.  "I will eat you up."  So I swam after it and ate it all up.  "Yum, yum." I said.
I love this land.  I will never go home!

Lego Land
I climbed up the ladder and peeped through the big hole in the clouds.  I can see Lego houses all around me.  There are Lego cars driving on the Lego roads.  The cars have to stop at the traffic lights.  The boss is Broad Business and I have to get him because he is bad.

Ice Crystal Land
Wow.  Suddenly I appeared in ice crystal land. I saw ice on the trees.  It was amazing.  I loved it.
"Arggggh."  The snowman was getting closer.  I was scared. I ran away but he still chased me. I tried to get down the ladder but he grabbed me and took me home.
We went to the lake.  I spotted some gorgeous golden fish.  I went to put on my togs and I jumped off the grass and I landed on a shark. I screamed.  He bit my leg.  "Ouch." I said. I started to cry.  The snowman laughed.
I found the hole and ran home as fast as I could.

Wonderland
Wonderland has lollipops and snow too with a castle.  I like the land of Wonder.  I went to find the castle in the land.  I climbed a tree to find the bridge to the castle.
I went inside to find the Queen in the castle and I looked for the stairs.  I climbed up the stairs but the stairs were high.  I flew up to climb the steps and I found the Queen.

Easter Land
Wow!  I am in Easter land.  There are chocolate Easter bunnies.  They are holding baskets full of scrumptious Easter eggs and when I am hungry I eat the Easter bunnies. When there are rainbows, there is chocolate at the end.
One night I woke up...I saw a really bad Easter bunny... (to be continued).
