Our walk to feed the ducks

We walked around to Windsor Park on a beautiful sunny Wednesday morning to feed the ducks.  We all took lots of videos and photos and came back and wrote fantastic stories.

Did you know that ducks have webbed feet?  They help them to swim.  Quack quack quack!  I heard the ducks coming.  They smelt the bread in the plastic bag.

Did you know that ducks have heavy bodies and short legs?  Yesterday Room 1 went to Windsor Park.  In the water there was green slime at the bottom.  I saw lots of ducks and black and yellow ducklings.  It was cool because we got to take pictures.  I ripped up little pieces of bread and threw the bread into the water.  It was fun.  Yay!

Did you know....that some ducks can be blue?  Yesterday Room 1 went outside for a little walk to Windsor Park.  I saw...?  Cute little fluffy ducklings swimming with their mothers.  I snapped the bread up into little tiny pieces to feed the ducks.  I heard the ducks going quack quack quack because they loved their bread but...some were trying to fight over it.
Marcus

Did you know that ducks drift on the wavy water?  Yesterday Room 1 wandered to Windsor Park.  I saw baby ducklings dabbling and kicking their feet in the air too.  They are so cute and fluffy and they look so cuddly.  I saw 3 ducklings staying near their mum to keep safe.

Kahoot!

Mrs Blakesley and Mrs McFadyen have been creating quizzes for us to play using the ipads and Kahoot.  The quiz is projected onto the screen at the front of the classroom and in teams of 3 and 4 we work together, using an ipad, to answer the questions quickly and correctly.  After each question Kahoot shows us which team is in the lead and how many teams got the answer correct.

Pirate Day Treasure Hunt!

After lunch we teamed up with the buccaneers from Room 3 for a Treasure Hunt.  We had to hunt around Parkvale School for clues and answers and then finally we were able to dig for the treasure. We went back to Room 1 and shared out the doubloons - yummy!
Pirate day was soooooo much fun!

Dance Festival Photos

Room 1 - You made Mrs Blakesley and Mrs McFadyen so proud on Tuesday night!
You have all worked so hard to create and learn your dances and you should be very proud of yourselves.  It was lovely to watch you dance and see you all dressed up.

Thank you to all the families who came along to support our evening!

We worked with Room 3 and our two dances were The Locomotion and the Troika (which is a Russian Folk dance).  Thank you Room 3!  We loved working with you.

Fabulous Dance Festival Writing!

The Dance Night

Wow, I felt nervous when we did our dance at Karamu.  I was smiling at my mum and brother and my mum took some videos.  I was dressed up with a white top with some big dots on it. They were black.  My favourite dance was the Hokey Tokey because we had to turn around. I like Mrs Riley's costume.  It was a bear and Mrs Mueller was a colourful parrot.  I loved watching all of the dances.  It was a fun night.

We marched into Karamu High School hall.  I was feeling excited and I dressed up as a Spring lady because I had my Spring dress and jacket.  My favourite dances were the Troika and the Locomotion because as the end of The Locomotion we sang, "Let's make a chain now, c'mon baby," and then we froze.  It was a great night!

For a few weeks Room 1 and Room 3 have been practicing our 4 dances for the dance festival.  We have been practicing The Locomotion and the Troika, the Hokey Tokey and So Long Farewell.  My favourite was the Locomotion because the lady who sings it has a nice voice.  I like the part where it goes like this, "I think you got the knack, oh, oh."
By Marcus

Wow!  I was nervous when we marched inside Karamu School hall.  I was dressed up like the Queen.  My dress was pink and my tiara was silver.  My favourite dance was So Long Farewell because I like that song and I could see my mum.
By Ashanti

Last exciting night I was excited because I could not wait!  When we walked in we did the Grand March.  We did 4 fantastic dances.  My favourite dance was The Locomotion because we did the triangle.  Mrs Mueller was a very colourful parrot.  Mrs McFadyen was a crocodile.  I was Aladdin.  It was great!
By Benji

When I was getting ready for the dance festival I was nervous because there was going to be 400 people there.  When we got to the hall at Karamu School we marched around the hall and waved.  My favourite dance was...The Locomotion.  We did a little bit of Jump jam moves, like the scissors.  I was dressed as a ballerina.  Everyone looked fantastic.  Mrs Blakesley was an Indian - Pocahontas.  Mrs McFadyen was a crocodile, snap, snap!  For The Locomotion, I was one of the leaders.  So was Niamh and Raiha and Tyler too.  I had so so so much fun because I love dancing all the time.  We danced to the Hokey Tokey.  Mrs Riley was a brown bear and Mr Wright was a black bear.  Mrs Mueller was a colourful parrot.  I had a great night!
By Maia

Vroom, Vroom went the car on the way to the Dance Festival.  In the car I was nervous because there was over 400 mums and dads at Karamu school.  My favouite dance was the Troika.  I liked Mrs Blakesley's costume and I wore my best clothes.
By Isaac

Our Dance Festival was last night.  I really liked The Locomotion because I like pretending to be a train.  My Nanny and Mum watched me.  It was so fun!
By Terrell

Wow.  I felt nervous when I marched inside Karamu school hall.  My sister said to me, "Do your best."  I said, "Of course I will because I know how to do it off by heart."  We did four dances.  My favourite dance was The Locomotion because we grabbed onto each other's shoulders and we counted in our head, "one, two three, kick," and at the end we said, "Come on, Come on, do the locomotion with me!  And then we froze.  Then we waved our arms in the air.  I was pretending to be a movie star!
By Niamh

Last night there were over 400 people
watching the dance festival. I was so nervous.  I saw my mum taking photos of the dances.  I loved the Troika and The Locomotion but we did 4 dances. I got a dance programme.  It showed the songs and dances for all the classes.  I loved the book.  It was an awesome night!

The Loco-Motion

Our Fabulous Land of Toys Writing

Today we climbed up the Faraway Tree into the Land of Toys. Here are some of our fabulous adventures...

My head peeked up through the clouds and I saw Elsa looking at me with a smile.  I smiled back at her.
I ran to her and I said to Elsa,
"Please show me your powers so we can build a snowman."
She rubbed her hands together.  She threw her hands into the air.  The icy snow came out of her hands and it touched the blue sky and it started to snow. Snowflakes were all around me.
"Do you want to build a snowman," I said.

Erin

My head popped up through the clouds.  I wiped my eyes and I couldn't believe it!
I saw my toy superman alive, flying and taking down the zombies.  He was helping his friends, Batman and Wonder woman.  He taught me how to fly.  He gave me a Superman costume and he taught me how to do laser eyes and then we took down the zombies together.

Mana

Once upon a time I was climbing up the mysterious Faraway Tree and I peeped through the clouds...I saw my unicorn, Rosie and she said, "Hello, hello Reese.  Would you like to play with me?"
I said, "Yes."
"Come on then Reese."
So we went to the playground and I hopped onto Rosie's back and she flew up into the air and Rosie saw a rainbow. She went onto the rainbow and she ran down the rainbow.

Reese

My head peeked up into the exciting land of toys...
I saw Emmet smiling at me and I smiled too.  I said to Emmet,
"Can I help build a house with you? I love building houses.  It is fun."
Emmet said, "Yes."
Thank you Emmet.

Coby

When my head shot through the hole in the amazing cloud what I saw was amazing.  All my eleven ponies were there.  I asked them what land it was and they said it was the land of toys.  I asked my favourite pony, if I could trot around on her and she said I could.  We went very fast and I almost fell off.  Then I saw a house and a stable and we went to sleep.

Maddie

I peeped up into the...exciting land of toys.  I saw my pirate ship shooting cannons!!!!  Shoot. Shoot. Bang. Bang. Bang!!!
I saw Superman flying in the air.  I flew with him. We flew fast, really, really, really, really fast.

Benji

My head peeked up into the Land of Toys.  Wow!  There were all of my transformers and dinosaurs and they were very, very big.  We played army.  I got to have a turn in my army hulk to shoot the bullets.
